50 Shades of Grey?

"Forget Mr Grey, Jefferson Howie and Lily tell a much better story, I really couldn't put this book down when I first read it, so much so I went back for seconds.
Karen writes like a grown up not an adolescent, I can't recommend this book enough ♥" - on 'A LOVE THAT MAKES LIFE DRUNK'

OK, so I started this debate yesterday, possibly through envy, possibly because I can't see what all the fuss is about. Women have been writing erotic fiction/erotic romance for years - think Anais Nin (Delta of Venus), Pauline Reage (story of O), Emmanuelle Arsan (Emmanuelle), Catherine Millet, (The Sexual Life of Catherine M), and of course Karen Roderick (A Love That Makes Life Drunk), so what is it about E.L James' 'Fifty Shades of Grey' that has suddenly captured the imagination of contemporary women when 'Mr Grey' has been around for years?

When I spoke out on Facebook yesterday to ask '50 Shades of Grey?'  it was in response to recent feedback I'd had about my own work in comparison, such as, it's like ALTMLD 'but with bondage', and 'it makes A Love That Makes Life Drunk' look like the Bible'.
I'm not sure the Bible contains the "C" word - and I think we know which "C" I'm referring to.
And anyway, wasn't Jefferson Howie doing it long before Mr Grey?

So, rant aside, because when you have a big publisher behind you, we know a writer is able to achieve a huge amount, but I'm very happy to say that in response to my outburst on Facebook, my lovely readers have come out in support, for which I am so grateful (see above and below),

"Excellent book - much better than 50 shades of grey - if you've not read it then get a copy its brill"

So, I might not be selling thousands of copies and, and I'm not at the top of the charts in Tesco, but hey, my work is out there, and people are buying it, and even better, they're buying my 2nd novel 'Hope & Jump' too.
So, big thanks to you all out there, it's sincerely appreciated.
'A Love That Makes Life Drunk' and 'Hope & Jump' are available from Amazon and YPD-books.

Keep Calm and Carry On

Top Room
I know I'm currently in the delirious state of mind that is known as the First Draft (my next book), but this is what has been keeping me from it - our house.
It was in a pretty good state when we bought it, but being an old house it needs a lot more work as well as updating.
The top room (above), or 'the coastal room' as it's affectionately known, is almost finished, and Bedroom 1 (below) hasn't been painted yet, but is ok for now.
Anyway, house aside, I've got a book to get on with.
Have a good day

I'm inspired.
A few weeks ago I started writing a new book and it's really fired me. Unlike when I penned 'A Love That Makes Life Drunk' and 'Hope & Jump', I don't have alot of time to sit and write anymore, so basically I'm cramming which is adding to the excitement.
So, who's fired me, well, the man above of course - Tom Delonge, with his 6ft plus frame, cheeky grin, floppy hair and cool exterior.
My new writing doesn't have a title yet, but there are a few in the pipeline, so I'll post as soon as I've decided, but what I can say is, I've gone back to my risque roots and abandoned my characters in a way those of you who have read all about Jefferson and Lily's antics will understand.
Here's to more creating.
Thank you Tom.

Room With a View

As most of you know we've recently moved house - my reason for being away from the blog.
For the past few weeks I've had the decorating bug.
The window above is our kitchen - now finished and complete with Orla Kiely cushions and a view!
Happy Days.

Diamond Jubilee Weekend

OK, so it's not my usual thing, but since the kids are having a street party at school, and my village is joining in the celebrations, my husband told me I shouldn't be boring and therefore put up some bunting outside the house. I can't say it wasn't on my mind as I'd already bought 7 metres of the stuff at the local garden centre 2 weeks before.
But even so, I did feel a little obvious doing it.
Anyway, this is the back of our house today, (we also have it out the front - me, boring, how dare he!!), which will be enjoyed with lots of good food, family, and the all important drink.
Have a great weekend whatever you do.

Geek Dress

I don't know why I keep referring to this dress as 'geeky', because as I'm fairly geeky anyway surely it's no surpris...
